Uropa², which was intially release as Shareware by Austex
Software earlier in the year has now received it's commercial release by Vulcan
Software. The Shareware version didn't do that well when it was released, the
reason for this, I don't know, however, it certainly wasn't because the game
wasn't any good. Hopefully Vulcan can help get the authors what they deserve. The game now comes on CD instead of disks. The game is almost completly runable from CD apart from about 4Mb worth of files that need to be copied to a directory on your HD. This is mainly to allow the saving of games which would not be possible if ran from CD only.
If you have previously read my review of the Shareware version you will already know that I like this game a lot. By now your probably wondering what new additions to there game there are - well, to be honest not a lot really however, this isn't nessecerily a bad thing.
I strongly suggest that, if you haven't already, you go and read the review of the shareware version. This will give you a deeper insight to the game, you can them come back and see what has been added to the game. For those of you that are too lazy to do this, here is a basic outline of the game.
The basic story of the games is as follows. You are the newest addition to the Centurion Task Force, your mission is to save Uropa² from destruction at the hands of the Kapone droids. Communications with the moon have ceased and the fate of the colonists is unknown. Your task is to rescue any colonists that have survived, destroy thr Kapones and ultimately seek out the mastermind behind their rebellion.

The game consists if 2 different sections, a 3D ismoetric based adventure and a
3D vector based shoot-em-up. The majority of the 10 missions included in the
game take place in the isometric part of the game. In this you control a droid
that has to solve various puzzles and problems while blasting away the Kapone
droids using a number of different weapons. Every now and then, to complete
certain tasks you will have to take to the vector based part of the game. In
this you control a Hovar vehicle, basically what you do in this part is blow
away enemy vehicles, the mission can become a bit of a side issue. Allthough
the isometric part of the game is by far the best, the vector based part does
provide a nice change, even if it is a little limited.
Right, time to have a look at whats new in this version. Probably the biggest
addition is the the digital speech. This is used to introduce each mission and
it's objectives and also for the InterCorp Computer, big events in each missions
are also accompanied by some digital speech. This adds a lot to the game,
probably more then you would think.
Other new features include a 3D, fully rendered intro animation and support for 10 different languages in the game. There have also been a general clean up and a few bug-fixes.
I awarded the original game a very repectable 91%. I don't see any reason why this version shouldn't get the same, infact, maybe a few percent extra wouldn't be out of the question for the speech that is included. To put things simply, this is Vulcans best game yet, it's great fun and will keep you playing for a long time. Lets hope Vulcan continue with this standard of games.
