Virtual Grand Prix

Originally called Alien F1, this is a game that has caused a massive stir in the Amiga communinty. I for one have had many enquires about the game and was pleased to hear a few weeks ago that development of the game was still moving alonf nicely. I am now able to bring you some updated screenshots of the game as well as a small update regarding features.

For those that haven't heard of this game before it in a racing game that is beginning to look somewhat like Nascar on the PC. It will feature all 16 tracks of the Formula One season as well as depicting all of the different teams.

A lot of work has been pout into the engine of the game to get it moving as fast as possible, even on a bas 030/50mhs the game runs at a very acceptable 15fps in the low-res mode. While on the subject of screenmodes the game now supports two, 320x256 and 320x512, as you can see from the screenshots on this page the game really does look good, especially in the hi-res mode (See screenshot below). Good news for GFX cards, the game will support them fully.

As well as the engine, the author has put a lot of work into getting the game as close to reality as possible, the simulation is very detailed. The game features complete car set-up including different tyre types, gear ratios, brake balancing and wing settings.

The game also boasts excellent artificial intelligence to make the race as thrilling as possible. One problem that was picked up on in the demo was the control method, well, this has now been improved and the game now supports mouse, joystick and analogue joystick.

For those that like to view that spectacular crash again, the game will include an action replay feature that can be paused, fast forwarded, rewound and even put in slow motion. Adding to this there will be 6 different camera views for to to play/watch the game from.

The game is fully multi-tasking. To play the game you will require an AGA/GFX card equiped Amiga with at least 4Mb RAM an 030/25mhz and probably a CD-ROM too. The author also plans to add PPC support to the game although he is not sure what form this will take yet.

Currently the author has converted over half of the tracks and he is hoping for a October release.
