SpaceStation 3000.

Space Station 3000 is a game from Digital Images, it is a follow-up to the original SpaceStation game which didn't really make it into the limelight. Judging by the information that I have been given about this follow-up it most certainly could be successful.

The basis of the game is as follows. You manage your own SpaceStation. It is your responcibility to make sure that it starts making money as well as equiping it with enough wepaonary that it is in a position to defend itself when the enivitable attacks happen. Basically this is Sim City but on a Space Station. Maybe it should be called Sim-SpaceStation ;).

So how do you go about getting your spacestation up and running, well, first of all you have to choose a planet to put your spacestation in the orbit of. This is your first major decision as the planet you choose will make a massive impression on the way you operate your station. If you choose a secure planet like Earth, then you'll rarely get attacked as it has very high security, you'll also make more money from trading as the economy is much richer. Whereas if you choose to orbit your station around a cheaper, less mainstream planet then you should get ready to be attacked on a much more frequent basis.

Your probably thinking by now that you can just choose a planet like Earth and it'll be an easy life, well, its not quite that easy. Before you can place your station around a planet you'll need to buy a orbiting licence and these ain't cheap on some of the better planets. Luckily enough, your station is equiped with a hyperdrive system so you can move from planet to planet as and when you require.

As mentioned before, fighting plays quite a big part in the game and your station will need to be defended. This can be done in a number of ways, you can fir you station with the latest weapons and shields and can also build you own fleet of battle cruisers fighters which also in turn can be armed with all the latest weapons. You can get new technology in one of two ways, by either researching it yourself or buy taking over the ships of those that attack you. Using this second method you can gain such prizes as alien UFOs.

There is lots more to the game too including the hiring and firing of staff - making sure you have enough people in each department to keep things running smoothly, the building of additions to your space station including such things as hospitals and residentual improvments, dealing with the docking and leaving of ships and much more.

System requirments for the game have not yet been completly confirmed however it is expected that there will be two versions of the game, one for AGA and one for OCS (Sadly, no GFX card support at the moment) on top of this you will require a CD-ROM drive, 9Mb HD space, 1Mb Chip RAM and 2Mb Fast RAM.

There will hopefully be a demo released very soon, also the development team are currently working on a support website.

If anyone has any comments or would just like to email there support they should send them to:- stuart@digital-images.demon.co.uk
