The Prophet - A Word from the Creator

The Prophet,

statement from the creator.

There have been many questions and statements made about my game The Prophet, for this reason I have decided to try and answer some of these. The first thing is to state the game will not have 20,000 locations as stated everywhere. The city alone has this many, the entire game will consist of around 200,000 locations to start with. The other thing to consider is that this game was written to be very flexible with the way it handles its external data e.g.. Maps, monsters, items, missions, and wall types etc. After I have completed the main game I plan on releasing data disks for it. Each disk will add thousands more locations as well as new monsters, missions, items etc., whilst keeping all the original data complete. The number of data disks will be dependant on demand but I will do at least 1 and possibly up to 5, the first disk will allow you to explore outside the city visiting villages, swamps, forest, caves etc.

Another issue that has been raised is why the game does not support graphics cards. This is easy to answer, it is my first commercial release and as yet I do not own a graphics card. Supporting them now would mean totally redrawing every frame of animation. If anyone feels they have the necessary skills to do this then contact me and I will give you my full support. Remember each monster has 25 frames and for every place type e.g. city. there could be 200 individual drawings so it is a big task. I do have several ideas for future games some d+d some not and for these I will try to support graphics and sound cards. Regarding the issue about step time movement this was a choice made by personal preference. I am not writing another doom + gloom clone there are enough of these already and the idea has been tried before with d+d game and in my opinion does not work. Saying that if I make a follow on this will include animated movement but still not the free-scape type done on everything at the moment. The game has been seen and played by many p.c. users I know, all of which found the lack of free-scape a good point of the game because it is not a blast and run arcade game and have been requested on many occasions to do a p.c. conversion. Let me assure all amiga users there will never be a p.c. conversion of this game, they want it then they buy an Amiga. Also with each data disk I am thinking about putting on a game utility these will include.

Arcade Combat- a fighting game in the style of mortal combat etc. where you enter an arena to fight with monsters etc. You will have the weapons armour that you have in the main game. after combat the player will return to the game with the wounds, experience etc. gained in the arena, may also include 2 player so you can take your character on a disk to compete against others.

2 player linkup dungeon - so you can compete live in a dungeon again another player on another computer. Again affecting long term player stats, including monsters and the ability to set up your own traps.

Dungeon editor and creator-to make your own maps, monsters, missions, lands etc.
