Update: Phoenix Fighters.

A few weeks ago I brought you news on a new game called Phoenix Fighters that was due for release by Alive Mediasoft, well now I am able to bring you furthers details on what seems to be a nice looking game.

Basically, the game is an overhead shoot-em-up designed for one or two players, its pays more then a passing resemablence to an old game called Galaxy Force 2 whoich was so popular a few years ago. If it can reach the playability levels that this game did then it could turn out to be very good indeed.

Phoenix Fighters features a number of different game types. The first of these is the basic one-player missions. In these you are given a number of objectives that you have to complete to advance onto the next level, these puzzles can be as simple as hitting a button to open a door elsehwere in the level to walls that may seem solid but can infact be shot through and special walls that reflect your shots back at you. To help you on your way at the start you are given hint messages to help get you used to the game, these missions are also available in a 2-player form which rely very much on the two players co-operating.

There are also two types of race, the first of these is Gate Races. Basically, in this you have to fly the track in the shortest time possible, while making sure you fly through all of the gates in the right order. The second type of race is the Gem Race, in this it is your aim to collect all of the gems as fast as possible. Both of these races can be played in both one and two player modes with the one player being against the clock with your main aim being to get your self in the Hall of Fame. The 2-player version is just an out and out race against eachother.

The last and probabvly the best multi-pkayer experience is the Dogfight. This is an out and out fight against the other player. Choose your own ship, weapons and equipment that you think will best aid you in your quest for victory. Repairs can be made throughout the battle if you suffer a bit too much damage. This part of the game is completly configurable in that you can choose how much money, amount of ships etc that are available at the start.

The game will feature over 200 levels spread over the 5 games types. 80 for the one-player missions, 50 for the 2-player missions, 20 gate races, 20 gem races and 40 dog fight levels. I'm sure this is enough to keep anyone playing for a long time.

The game is played at a constant speed of 50fps, a level that is substained even on lower end CPU's. Levels in the game are as large as 512*800 pixels and all are in over 128 colours.

The game features a vast amount of ships and weaponary to choose from, there are 20 different ships all with individual characteristics and 15 different weapons ranging from a basic shot-gun to a devastating shockwave. Other features that the games boasts includes enemies with individual energy and weapons, a complex priority based and distance controlled volume sound system, ship upgrades in-game, teleporters for quick transportation between parts in the level, realistic collisions and much, much more.

To run the game you will require any Amiga with 0.5Mb Chip RAM and 0.5Mb Fast RAM. There will also be some improvments for 68020+ processors.

Hopefully, a demo of the game will be available soon.
