Not much has been heard of this game recently
so I decided it was time for an update on what is happening with it.
For those of you that don't remember Great Nations is a Civilization style game with a lot more being put into Customisation and network play. Things have advanced quite far since I last brought you news on the game, however, there hasn't been a new demo released unfortunalty.
Some of the changes that have been made include a Great Nations Pedia, this is similar to the in-game help that was found in both Civilization and Colonization, colour depth of the graphics has been changed from 128-256s colours - they now look much better. However, probably the biggest addition that has been made in the inclusion of a isometric mode similar to that which can be found in Civ 2, a few early examples of this mode can be seen on these pages.
One of the best things about this game is the fact that upto 8 players can play against eachother over the Internet. This was a feature that was added in Civ 2, however, this was never converted for the Amiga so we were never able to experience this.
Machine specs for the game for still an AGA/GFX card Amiga with Workbench 3.0, a
68020, 6Mb Memory (More for the higher resolutions and bigger tilesets) and a
AmiTCP compatible TCP stack for network play.
I'm informed that there will be a new demo versions released before the end of the month, however, this will not feature the isometric mode as the gfx for this are not yet complete.
