Update: Eat the Whistle.

You may remember Eat the Whistle from when I wrote an article on it a while ago, back then details about the game were quite sketchy. However, the developers have now released more information about the game as well as some new screenshots.

The game uses the familar side on view that was made so popular in the early days of football games. This may not be something that Amiga users are used to since the most popular football games on the Amiga (Such as Sensible Soccer, Goal/Kick Off) use different approaches, it will be interesting to see if the game can succeed using this viewpoint.

The game will feature support for all well known club league and cup competitions as well as national competitions such as the World Cup, unfortunalty though the game will not feature real player names although you will be able to change this with the editor that the game comes with. This editor will also allow you to edit tactics and all other team details.

A lot of work has been put into the graphics of the game and although the players are very small they are very detailed. The animation is another are that has received a lot of work, there are more then 550 frames of animation for the players, 100 for the goalkeeper and another 100 for the referee, all this goes to make sure the game runs very smoothly. While on the subject of the smoothness of the game, people with fast processors will benefit here as the faster the CPU the faster the games framerate, it is worth noting though that the game will always run at the same speed, it will just look smoother on faster processors

The game will feature 30 (Yes, thirty) different playing surfaces including the old favorites such as muddy, wet and frozen. Hopefully all of these will effect the game as they do in other football games. Currently the game only has support for 1 or 2 players, this will hopefully change though as the authors plan 3 and 4 player support. One feature that went down very well in the very Successful Player Manager was the ability to be able to play as one player on the pitch and have the rest controlled by the computer, this is another feature that the authors hope to implement.

Replays will be supported in the game and you will be able to save these to disk so you can watch them again and again. There will also be spoken commentry in the CD-ROM version. Other features includes CD32 Joypad support, arcade version with power-ups like Speedball 2, special shots and mucm more.

The game is fully multi-tasking and will run on any Amiga with 1Mb memory, Both CyberGFX and Picassio96 will be supported for GFX card users, the game will also support AHI for sound.

A release date for the game has not yet been decided, however, the developers hope to have a demo version available soon.
