The final ever issue of CU Amiga is now out. The long running Amiga Magazine has finally come to the end of its long existance with the October 1998 issue.
While the internet folk will have already have gone through the period of shock that they suffered when they first heard the news, the news of the magazines closure will only be known by non-internet people when they see this magazine on the news shelves and I'm sure it is something that they will most certainly not enjoy reading.
CU Amiga is probably one of the longest running Computer Magazines, it has evolved through many stages from Vic User to Commodore User and finally to what it is today. In all it has been running for nearly 15 years, leading as through the boom times of the early 90's and still providing the best support when things got difficult. Throughout this time it has mantained a constant level of quality that has made what many will say as the best ever Amiga magazine.
This issue is no different. The first thing you will notice is the rather odd upside-down cover, a mistake or something done on purpose? Personally, I think the latter, but whatever it is, it certainly looks odd. With 8 pages devoted to saying goodbye, this issue will make even themost hardend Amiga owners feel a fair amount of sadeness, even just reading through the issue brings this knowing that it is the last time you'll ever read that part in CU Amiga in its current form.
The CD doesn't let the magazine down either. As well as a full version of Cinema 4D you will also find demos of Wasted Dreams, Evil Doom Special Edition & Napalm on it. Theres also a whole collection of farewell emails that were sent to CU Amiga for you to look over as well as letters and a collection of the ever famous mat.readme files that were found on the earlier CD's.
This is most certainly not an issue to miss out on, if not only for the fact it is the last ever one but because its a damn good read.
To finish off I would like to say a big thankyou to the current CU Amiga team and to those that have made it what a great magazine it is in the past. A grand farewell must go to Andrew, Tony, and the rest who contributed to the latest issues of the magazine. Hopefully we'll see you back if and when Gateway get the new Amiga on the streets. For now, you'll just be a very fond memory of how a magazine should be done.
However, a time does come when you have to move on. CU Amiga closing is a big blow, however, we have come through much bigger blows in the past. We still have Amiga Format which will continue for a long time yet and can only get better in this time.
Long live the Amiga!
