Bubble Heroes

Some of you may remember this game from when I featured it in a round-up of the Italian games that were in development a few months ago. Well now, as promised, I am able to bring your further details on what looks like being a very nice game.

Bubble Heroes is a puzzle/adventure game in the same style as the excellent Bubble Bobble, however, there is a much more complex structure behind the game. Basically, the story of the game involves the world of Radia being in danger, a dark, evil knight called Gonzul arrived on the island and abducted the four Nimphs, the source of power and pillars of peace and richness. The queen of these nimphs, Adora, had spread a message through her mental powers during the kidnapping to all the heroes of Radia to rescue them. Only three have responded Nekochan, Gupochi and Yorumaru.

All together, the four nimphs can unite their forces in order to activate a magical weapon which is the only hope to destroy Gonzol, your mission is simple, take one of the three heroes, safe the nimphs and destroy Gonzol...

The game features a number of different modes including story mode (in which you take on the above quest), championship mode and VS mode (which can be either against a human or computer opponent, the computer player is very smart so be ready for a difficult game here). If you take on the story mode you must select from one of the 3 heroes outlined above, all of these have a different story behind them and different cut scenes/end sequence. With one of these heroes you must fight your way through 4 different worlds, each one split into 4 different games phases.

The basis of the game uses the usual format for this type of game in which you have to fire the current ball in your winch onto balls of the same colour on the screen. When your ball touches two or more of the same colour, they are removed from the screen, the final aim being to erase all of the bubbles from the screen. However, the game doesn't stay with the exact same format all the way though, for example, on the third stage of the first world when playing as Nekochan things change slightly. On this part you can choose the colour of the bubble in the winch yourself, however, you can only destroy a maximum of 2 bubbles of the same colour. The aim is not to erase all bubbles off the screen but to clear a path through the middle to shoot at the jail sphere. In the 4th phase, you take part in a battle with Bakaki, with each person using their special powers to try and win. This slight change of the game format will hopefully keep the interest at a high level.

A few of the features that the game boasts includes, lots of special effects including transparencies, animated backgrounds, mulitple scrolling playfields during game, tons of colours on screen all handled at 50fps, CDDA soundtrack, over 60 levels and lots more besides.

The best thing about it all is that you don't need a super powered Amiga to play it all. It'll work on a simple AGA Amiga with a 68020+, 1.MB Chip RAM, 4MB Fast RAM, and a 2x speed CD-ROM drive.

There will hopefully be a demo in the not to distant future.
